Steve Wiggins is one of the most accomplished entrepreneurs and executives in the healthcare sector, launching health services, health insurance, specialty pharmaceutical and medical technology companies over the past 30 years.  Steve joined Essex Woodlands in 2007 as Operating Partner and was appointed Managing Director in February 2008. 

Prior to Essex Woodlands, Steve founded Oxford Health Plans and served for 14 years as the company‚Äôs Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer. Under his leadership, Oxford grew to over $5 billion in annual revenue and ranked among the 300 largest U.S. corporations. Previously, he was the Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of HealthMarket, Inc., an insurance company that gave birth to innovative Consumer Driven Health Plans and grew to over $150 million in revenue before being acquired by UICI. He co-founded Health Partners, Inc, a physician practice management company that grew to $140 million in annual revenue before it was sold. He served as co-Founder of Intelliclaim, Inc., which provided claim auditing and productivity software and services to over twenty health insurance companies before it was sold to McKesson.  He was also the founding investor in BenefitPort, LLC, a consolidation of health insurance general agencies.

Steve co-leads our healthcare services and healthcare information technology investment practice and serves on the Board of Directors for InfluenceHealth.  Steve also serves as Director of Accessible Space, Inc, a non-profit organization he founded in 1978, which operates residential facilities for individuals with mobility impairments and brain injuries.

Steve holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Macalester College and a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School.  He enjoys kite boarding, golfing, biking and fishing and has a keen interest in complimentary medicine and religion.
