Shaunak joined the New York office of Essex Woodlands in September 2013, was promoted to Vice President in June 2014, and was further promoted to Principal in March 2017 . Shaunak is responsible for identifying and evaluating new investments across the healthcare sector in addition to playing an active role in the management of existing portfolio companies.
Prior to joining Essex Woodlands, Shaunak worked at Health Evolution Partners – a San Francisco based private equity firm focused on growth and buyout investments in healthcare. Shaunak began his career in the investment banking group at Citigroup, where he focused on mergers and acquisitions primarily in the medical device, specialty pharmaceutical and medical technology sectors.
Shaunak earned his Master of Business Administration degree from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and graduated Phi Beta Kappa and with Honors from the University of California, Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. Originally from Southern California, Shaunak enjoys playing squash and going on international trekking adventures, and has a keen interest in healthcare and decision science.
