Based in Malvern, Pennsylvania, Orthovita, Inc. was a spine and orthopedic company with a portfolio of orthobiologic and biosurgery products that developed and marketed medical implants. The company’s products were based on novel and unique proprietary biomaterials that had innovative mechanisms of action in the body. Orthovita’s orthobiologics platform offered products for the fusion, regeneration and fracture fixation of human bone, while its biosurgery platform offered products for controlling intra-operative bleeding, also known as hemostasis. The main products in Orthovita’s orthobiologics portfolio included Vitoss and Cortoss and in the biosurgery portfolio, Vitagel and Vitasure. In May 2011, Stryker Corporation announced the acquisition of Orthovita for $316M.
