Prolacta Bioscience Raises $35 Million in Mezzanine Financing

CITY OF INDUSTRY, California – Prolacta Bioscience®, the nation’s leading provider of human milk-based neonatal nutritional products, today announced the closing of a $35 million mezzanine round of financing. The transaction was led by Essex Woodlands and included participation from Aisling Capital, with existing shareholder Health Evolution Partners. As part of the transaction, Martin Sutter, Co-Founder and Managing Director at Essex Woodlands, will join Prolacta’s Board of Directors.

Prolacta’s neonatal nutritional products, when used as part of an exclusive human milk diet 1, are clinically proven to improve health outcomes 2,3,4 and reduce hospital costs2,5 for critically ill, extremely premature infants in the NICU, weighing between 500-1,250g at birth, as compared to cow milk-based fortifier or cow milk-based preterm formula.
 

Proceeds from the financing will be used to expand Prolacta’s commercial presence in the European market and to support clinical trials for the company’s human milk-based nutritional products in additional indications both in and out of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The funds will also be used to accelerate Prolacta’s therapeutic development plan for evaluating human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) to treat a variety of microbiome-related diseases.
